IIT JAM Physics Preparation Strategy
In today's post we are going to cove IIT JAM Physics. JAM, which stands for Joint Admission Test for MSc, is an online entrance Exam. It is conducted by IITs every year to provide admission in Msc courses.
Lets talk about the exam pattern : There will be seven test papers in the exam namely : Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Biotechnology, Biological Science, Mathematical Statics. Depending on your choice you can select any one paper. Total duration to complete the paper will be 03 hours. See below table for more info:
Which Book to study: Now you may ask, "which book should i refer?" Well, there are tons of options available ranging from Sushil Tomar, Vishal Deoarshi, Jyoti Ahuja and Atique Hasan.
Very first book which you should refer is "Previous Year Paper". Physics solved paper by Physics Institute Publication is a good option. You can get this book from here.
You can also go for R Gupta's book.
When you solve previous years paper, you can easily identify your low scoring area and work on it extra time.
Once you have identified your weak zone, prepare those topics from a good book.
Sushil Tomar's IIT JAM series books are good choice. There are total 03 books in this series, and each book contains different topics with detailed explanation and tons of practice papers. Here is the link for all three : Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III.
Virtual calculator is available in the exam hall, you dont have to carry it.

Here are few tips:
- Very first thing to do is print out the Syllabus.
- Based on syllabus prepare your study pattern. As each students has unique pattern we are not covering it in this blog post.
- Reserve extra for revisions and mock tests.
- Identify your weak zone, and pay extra attention.
- When preparing for JAM, motivation and concentration are your biggest strong points.
- Always keep a notebook with you when studying. You can use it to write important formulas and concepts. This will speed up your revision speed.
